Hands & Hearts Horsemanship

It is widely known from recent studies, science and research that human interaction with the horse is mentally and physically life changing – life altering for better health and well-being.  Emphasizing “Hearts” puts the focus on how the horse reads the human heart and why it is so important physiologically and psychologically in human interactions with horses.

Horse Haven Montana started fifteen years ago as a horse rescue, adoption and education organization. The need was great and our team had the resources and passion to focus on these three components.  Beyond rescue and adoption, we determined that without education, our ability to impact the need for rescue and adoption was significantly tied to education about horse ownership, management, care and the mind and body of the horse.

Fast forward to the present — Horse Haven Montana has evolved to become a nonprofit with national reach, headquartered in the heart of America’s horse country, Missoula, Montana. Our goal – to serve horses and humans with a focus on health and healing.

Our work with horses and our core group of rescue horses, is focused on youth and adults from both urban and rural communities, under-served communities, challenged and disadvantaged, meaning having limited to little or no access to a healthy, healing relationship with a focus on horses.

Today, our developing programs aim to work with veterans, youth, individuals from rural and Native American communities and those who lack access either by economics, traditional opportunities, or physical, emotional, psychological barriers.

Our goal is to remove those boundaries – to build opportunities for the relationship between horse and human to thrive for the benefit and well-being of all.
